Traditional Rug Making with a Milanese Perspective
cc-tapis was founded by Nelcya Chamszadeh and Fabrizio Cantoni, whose experience producing hand-knotted rugs in Nepal extends back more than two decades. In 2011, the company established its creative base in Milan, connecting traditional textile knowledge with the city’s culture of design, fashion and experimentation.
The Milan design team works with international designers, artists and brands to explore new forms, colors, materials and manufacturing techniques. Rather than reproducing conventional motifs, cc-tapis approaches each rug as a contemporary design object capable of defining the atmosphere of a room.

Handmade by Master Artisans
Most cc-tapis rugs are made by hand in specialized ateliers in Nepal, India and Thailand. Artisans use knowledge passed down through generations to prepare fibers, dye yarns, weave or knot each design and complete the final finishing.
Hand-knotted rugs are produced in Nepal using the traditional Tibetan knot. Every knot is tied individually onto a vertical loom, and a single square meter may contain hundreds of thousands of knots. Once removed from the loom, the rug is washed, stretched, sheared, carved and finished by hand.
Handloom rugs are woven line by line on horizontal looms in India. This technique offers a different visual character and a shorter production time while preserving the individuality of manual production. Hand-tufted rugs introduce further possibilities for sculpting, texture and expressive form.
Because these processes are performed by hand, each rug contains subtle variations that distinguish it from an industrially manufactured product.
Natural Materials and Rich Surface Texture
Materials are fundamental to the identity of every cc-tapis rug. Himalayan wool, pure silk, linen, cotton, aloe and other carefully selected fibers are combined to produce different levels of softness, sheen, depth and durability.
Himalayan wool offers natural tonal variation and a resilient, tactile surface. Silk reflects light and highlights details within a pattern, while linen and plant-based fibers introduce a drier, more architectural texture.
Yarns are refined and dyed by hand, allowing colors to develop subtle differences rather than appearing mechanically uniform. Specialized dyeing methods create tonal movement and depth, giving each surface a visual richness that changes with the direction of light and the viewer’s perspective.

Its Milan prototyping facility uses robotufting technology to explore one-of-a-kind designs and new materials, including regenerated ECONYL nylon that can enter a future recycling process.
