Italian Lighting Since 1997
Melogranoblu was founded in 1997 from an idea by Ermanno Rocchi and Massimo Crema. Based near Bergamo in northern Italy, the company has developed an international reputation for decorative interior lighting made from hand-worked glass.
From the beginning, Melogranoblu has approached lighting as more than a functional necessity. Each design is conceived around the sensorial effect created when illumination passes through, reflects from, or is partially concealed by glass.
The result is lighting that changes character throughout the day. When switched off, a Melogranoblu fixture may appear as a sculptural composition. When illuminated, it reveals internal forms, unexpected reflections, subtle colors, and atmospheric patterns of light.
Design, Fine Art, and Blown Glass
Melogranoblu describes its work through three interconnected disciplines: design, fine art, and blown glass. This combination gives the collection its distinctive balance of technical precision and poetic expression.
Every fixture begins with an idea about light. The form of the glass is then developed according to the effect it can generate—whether transparent, diffused, reflected, mirrored, or layered.
Some designs use pure geometric volumes. Others draw inspiration from organic forms, flowers, bells, natural textures, perfume bottles, or ancient objects. In every case, glass becomes an active medium that shapes the appearance and emotional quality of the light.
These fixtures can be appreciated as individual works of decorative art or repeated in compositions that interact with architecture on a much larger scale.
Handcrafted Glass Made in Italy
Melogranoblu designs, engineers, and produces its lighting in Italy. Within the company’s production laboratory, glass components are blown and worked individually by hand.
Although pieces within a collection share the same design, the artisanal production process gives each element subtle variations. Minor differences in color, texture, shape, and surface are natural characteristics of handmade glass and contribute to the individuality of each fixture.
Selected glass finishes are created through metallization, a specialized process in which a layer of metal is applied to the surface. These finishes can produce mirrored, reflective, translucent, or richly colored effects that change as the fixture is viewed from different angles.
Careful quality control accompanies the production process, helping preserve the relationship between artistic craftsmanship and the technical requirements of contemporary lighting.
Sculptural Pendant Lights
Melogranoblu pendant lights bring sculptural glass forms into dining rooms, living spaces, entryways, bedrooms, restaurants, and reception areas. Suspended individually, they can create a focused decorative accent. Arranged in groups, they form luminous compositions with greater visual rhythm and depth.
The company’s collections include clear, frosted, mirrored, metallic, and textured glass. Each treatment influences the way light travels through or around the fixture, producing a different balance of direct illumination, diffusion, reflection, and shadow.
Pendant heights and groupings can be planned in response to furniture, ceiling architecture, room proportions, and important sightlines. A linear arrangement may complement a dining table or kitchen island, while a cascading cluster can emphasize a stairwell, entrance, or double-height space.
Melogranoblu Chandeliers and Lighting Installations
Melogranoblu chandeliers are conceived as compositions rather than conventional single-body fixtures. Multiple glass elements can be suspended at varying heights and intervals, creating a luminous installation tailored to the architecture.
These arrangements may be compact and symmetrical or expansive and seemingly organic. By adjusting the number, type, finish, and placement of the glass components, designers can create a composition that feels quiet and restrained or theatrical and immersive.
Large Melogranoblu installations are particularly effective in spaces that require a strong visual identity. Hotel lobbies, restaurants, private residences, boutiques, event spaces, and reception areas can be transformed by light that occupies the room as an artistic presence.
Because each composition is developed in relation to its setting, the installation can engage with ceiling height, circulation, furniture placement, and the angles from which it will be experienced.
Hydra Modular Lighting System
Hydra is a modular lighting system developed to create flexible, dramatic compositions for residential and contract interiors. Clear or frosted blown-glass forms are suspended within tubular metal mesh structures, allowing light, glass, and color to interact.
A broad selection of glass shapes gives Hydra considerable creative range. Individual elements can be combined into compositions that appear geometric, botanical, abstract, or freely organic.
The system’s light structure supports installations of different scales without creating excessive visual density. Hydra can be configured for dining areas, living rooms, stairwells, hospitality spaces, and expansive architectural settings.
Its modular character provides significant freedom when determining the size, profile, color, and overall rhythm of a composition. Melogranoblu’s in-house designers can collaborate on project-specific layouts and provide drawings and installation guidance.
Nova Blown-Glass Pendants
The Nova System is a collection of blown-glass pendants designed to work as individual lighting objects or as part of a larger scenic composition.
Its glass models include Blenda, Galena, Janus, Stromboli, and Strombolicchio, offered in different sizes and finishes. Each form has a distinct silhouette, making it possible to create repetition with a single model or a more varied installation combining several complementary shapes.
Nova celebrates the expressive qualities of artisanal glass while maintaining a timeless, sophisticated appearance. The pendants can be arranged in orderly rows, compact clusters, vertical cascades, or expansive custom formations.
Whether used above a dining table or throughout a large atrium, Nova brings depth and craftsmanship to the surrounding architecture.
Soap Lighting Collection
The Soap collection explores revelation and concealment through mirrored glass. When the fixture is unlit, the reflective exterior gives it a mysterious, sculptural presence. Once illuminated, an internal glass form emerges, transforming the fixture and creating a captivating play of appearances.
This interaction between the outer surface and inner sculpture makes Soap particularly effective where lighting is intended to create surprise. The design changes with illumination, reflections, viewing angle, and the surrounding environment.
Soap is available in suspension, dome, and table-lamp expressions. Its distinctive character suits contemporary living spaces, bedrooms, lounges, restaurants, and hospitality interiors where lighting serves as both a decorative object and an atmospheric experience.
Perfume Pendant Lights
The Perfume collection consists of pure glass forms with a refined, rigorous aesthetic. Shapes including spheres, eggs, pinecones, and elongated spears can be suspended individually or assembled into expressive clusters.
These designs transcend their functional role through a combination of light and reflection. Their forms are simple enough to work across varied interiors, yet their handcrafted details and luminous effects give them a strong artistic identity.
A single Perfume pendant can provide a delicate accent beside a bed or above a small table. Larger compositions can establish rhythm across a dining space or create a dramatic installation in an entry hall, stairwell, or high-ceilinged room.
Serendipity Lighting
Serendipity takes inspiration from organic, natural, and primordial forms. Its softly shaped frosted-glass body celebrates the irregularity and imperfection found in nature.
The diffused surface creates a gentle, atmospheric glow, emphasizing the tactile character of the glass. Its sculptural form remains expressive without relying on decoration, allowing the fixture to complement both minimal and more layered interiors.
Available in suspension and table-lamp versions, Serendipity can introduce soft illumination to living rooms, bedrooms, intimate hospitality spaces, and quiet reading areas.
Ghanta Pendant Lighting
The Ghanta collection evokes the form of Tibetan ritual bells. Its symbolic silhouette gives the fixture a contemplative and ceremonial quality while remaining distinctly contemporary.
Versions combine brown metallic glass with white frosted or gold-leaf pendants. A clear-glass version with a frosted internal pendant creates a lighter expression of the same concept.
The relationship between the outer bell and suspended inner element produces depth and contrast. Used alone, Ghanta becomes a meaningful sculptural accent; repeated in a composition, it creates a rhythmic installation with a strong sense of atmosphere.
Diapason Lighting Collection
Designed by Giorgio Soressi, Diapason reinterprets vintage forms through the slender curves of a musical tuning fork. The collection combines brushed natural brass with frosted glass, creating a refined dialogue between metal and light.
Its balanced curves give the fixtures an elegant, graphic presence. Suspension and wall-light models can be used together to carry a consistent lighting language through dining rooms, living spaces, corridors, bedrooms, and hospitality environments.
Diapason demonstrates Melogranoblu’s ability to unite recognizable historical references with contemporary proportions and finishes.
Table, Floor, and Wall Lighting
Beyond its signature pendant compositions, Melogranoblu offers table lamps, floor lamps, and wall fixtures that bring its expressive glasswork to different levels within an interior.
Table lamps create pools of atmospheric light while functioning as sculptural objects on consoles, desks, and bedside tables. Floor lamps can add height and visual character to a seating area without requiring ceiling installation. Wall lights establish rhythm along corridors or provide decorative illumination in bedrooms, restaurants, and hospitality spaces.
Using multiple fixture types from the same collection can create continuity throughout a project. Alternatively, individual Melogranoblu designs can be combined as complementary works of glass art.
Custom and Made-to-Order Lighting
Made-to-order design is central to Melogranoblu’s approach. Its in-house designers collaborate with architects, interior designers, and clients to develop lighting installations tailored to specific spaces.
The process may involve selecting glass models, finishes, suspension lengths, metal colors, canopy dimensions, and the quantity and arrangement of individual components. Technical and aesthetic considerations are developed together to ensure that the completed composition relates naturally to the architecture.
Project drawings and detailed installation instructions help guide the assembly process. This support is especially valuable for complex installations involving high ceilings, multiple suspension points, large clusters, or carefully planned spatial patterns.
Through this customized approach, Melogranoblu can transform a collection of handmade glass elements into a unique composition shaped for its surroundings.
Lighting for Residential Interiors
Within a home, Melogranoblu lighting can serve as a focal point, provide ambient illumination, or help define the identity of a room.
A sculptural pendant can anchor a dining table. A cascading installation can animate a staircase or double-height entrance. Smaller pendants can add intimacy beside a bed or above a kitchen island, while table and floor lamps introduce atmospheric layers throughout living spaces.
Because the glass changes in response to daylight and electric illumination, the fixture continues to contribute to the interior even when it is not switched on. It becomes part of the room’s material and artistic composition.
Hospitality and Contract Lighting
Melogranoblu lighting is also well suited to restaurants, hotels, boutiques, lounges, offices, and other contract environments. These spaces often require lighting that supports practical needs while creating a memorable visual experience.
Custom compositions can guide movement, define gathering areas, emphasize architectural features, or establish a recognizable identity. Repetition across multiple locations can create consistency, while a singular installation can act as the defining feature of a lobby or dining room.
The company’s ability to develop and engineer project-specific solutions makes it possible to address both intimate decorative settings and impressive large-scale interiors.
Choosing a Melogranoblu Fixture
Selecting Melogranoblu lighting begins with the desired experience. A clear-glass fixture may feel light and transparent, while frosted glass creates softer diffusion. Mirrored and metallic finishes introduce reflection and visual drama, and richly textured surfaces highlight the handmade nature of the material.
Scale is equally important. A single pendant can offer a precise accent, while a multi-light composition can define an entire volume. Ceiling height, table dimensions, room proportions, viewing angles, and surrounding finishes all influence the most successful arrangement.
For custom installations, early planning helps coordinate electrical locations, ceiling supports, suspension lengths, and the relationship between the fixture and nearby architecture.
